Cabins and window walls
A typical Pigeon Forge cabin has a gable end that is mostly glass, facing the view, plus a covered porch with a patio door. Those large panes are often fixed, set high and hard to reach. Replacement usually means scaffolding or a lift, custom sizes for gable shapes and careful flashing where log or wood siding meets the frame.
- Gable glass: often custom shapes. Order time is longer.
- Porch doors: tempered glass and a sill pan. See sliding glass door replacement.
- Low-level large panes near walkways may need tempered glass under the 2018 IRC.
Rentals and scheduling
Census estimates put Pigeon Forge's rental vacancy rate near 16%, well above nearby communities and consistent with a large visitor-rental market. For a rental, plan the job between bookings, ask for a fixed install date in writing and choose frames that will not need painting. Vinyl and fiberglass hold up well to heavy use.
After the 2016 wildfires
The 2016 Great Smoky Mountains wildfires reached the Pigeon Forge area and Sevier County. If you are rebuilding or upgrading after fire damage or simply want more resistance, ask about tempered glass, which holds up to heat better than ordinary annealed glass, and keep vegetation and firewood away from window walls. Fire codes and insurance requirements are outside our scope; ask your insurer and the county.
Licensing and permits
Sevier County is not on Tennessee's Home Improvement license list, but jobs of $25,000 or more need a state contractor license, and large cabin window jobs can reach that figure quickly. Contact the City of Pigeon Forge inside city limits or Sevier County outside them about permits.
